Holidaying on the banks of the Dordogne river

Our campsite is situated on the banks of the Dordogne river which runs along the edge of our holiday park for 300m. This unique spot makes the Village du Port an ideal place for fishing, swimming and canoeing.

Our camping grounds are located within a Natura 2000 environmental protection zone. The Dordogne is also listed as the cleanest river in France and designated as a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

Camping on the banks of the Dordogne means easy access to all sorts of water activities:
From canoeing on the Dordogne to fly fishing, from swimming in crystal clear water to discovering unique flora and fauna, it’s all there for the taking!

So come and make some great memories on the banks of the Dordogne river!

Relaxing and swimming on the banks of the Dordogne river

Nothing beats lying down on the grass, listening to nature and the sounds of the river. In summer, the banks of the Dordogne stay cool and being surrounded by plant life is rejuvenating. At the Village du Port campsite, the riverbanks offer a unique panorama over the historic houses of Meyronne, part of the Great Sites of the Occitanie region.

The Dordogne River, natural swimming pool

The Dordogne flows beside our campsite, changing with the rhythm of the seasons.
In summer, the river gives way to a large pebble beach that becomes a real garden for dragonflies hanging on to large pink flowers. These plants called wild loosestrife have medicinal and water purifying properties.

As proof of the water’s cleanliness, grass beds with pretty white flowers blossom every summer in the river. The fauna is also rich and diverse: otters, ducks, cormorants, kingfishers…and our two wild swans floating past the campsite every morning before the arrival of canoes.

Here the water is shallow and calm, making it an ideal place for swimming and relaxing on the pebble or grassy beach.

Strong swimmers in search of a thrill can stray from the bank and even cross the river (approx. 30 m) to the cliff on the opposite side where the water is deeper and the current stronger!

A great playground

What could be more fun than building tiny boats with your children and watch them float away, learn the art of skimming stones or getting a natural massage in the invigorating current of the river…

The Dordogne River is a wonderful source of fun family adventures and great memories for everyone!

Canoeing down the Dordogne river

With direct access to the river from our campsite, a canoeing day on the Dordogne is a definite must.
On inflatables, canoes or paddle boards, a trip down river will be a highlight of your holiday.

Fishing in the Dordogne river

Situated on the banks of the Dordogne, classified as a 2nd category river, the Village du Port campsite is the place to be for all anglers, whether you enjoy fly fishing or lure fishing for carps, trout…

As the mist rises on the river, the fishermen are already patiently waiting for a pull on their line.
Towards the end of the day, fly-fishing experts show off their graceful skills when casting out.

An introduction to fishing

Every Tuesday afternoon, your children can learn the basics.
Throughout the summer, an instructor from the Fishing Federation takes a small group of children to introduce them to different fishing techniques. He also teaches them how to help protect the natural environment.
At the end of the day, each child will have his or her own fishing card to continue fishing throughout the holidays!

Private lessons with a fishing instructor are also available from ½ day up.

More information available at reception.
